Time to buy a new set of clubs
I played a bit in Highschool and used to shoot in the mid to low 80's. It's been about 5 years since I've played, but lately a lot of my coworkers have been hitting up the driving range and a local course everyday after work. I've played with them a few times, and am starting to get back into the groove. the only problem is that my clubs are too short and my club speed is WAY too high for the driver I have.
Are there any specifics places you guys would recommend, or brands you would recommend to me before I get hustled by somebody trying to make extra $$$ selling me a set of custom fit clubs. P.S. I have a budget of about $1,300 for a set of irons and two drivers. I have the wedges and putter taken care of. Thanks! |

Re: Time to buy a new set of clubs
$1,300 should be plenty of cash. I would just go to a good golf store/shop and get fitted. Try some different irons and drivers and see what you like. Take it from there.
Curious. Why do you want two drivers? |

Re: Time to buy a new set of clubs
Don't go get "custom fit" for clubs - go to a demo day where cleveland/taylormade etc is fitting, and get clubs fit for free.
Or, go pay $30-$40 to have a pro fit you for clubs. Remember what they tell you and then use that info to shop. You don't have to buy from the people who fit you. And 1300 is more than enough for irons+woods. |

When I say drivers I'm referring to one true driver and one other wood or utility iron. |

Is one generally any better than the other, or should this be something I discuss with the person who fits me? Thanks guys! |

Then a golf superstore place is alright since you can usually hit a variety of clubs, get a feel for how a number of different clubs look or feel. A demo day is a great idea. It is a big decision since you will likely be playing with these clubs for years to come, so take your time. If you don't feel comfortable with the sales staff/level of expertise, take your business somewhere else. I might also suggest not ruling out a set of used clubs. If you want to start getting serious about the game this might give you the opportunity to save some money, then upgrade to something after a year or two as you get going. |
