Default found a book for bbv

i remember reading a thread where someone was bitching about teenage heroes and heroines not having hot and heavy adolescent sex while slaying dragons and saving the world. i don't feel like looking for that thread, but wanted to share this book with bbv4l, because if one of you gets a chubby from reading about one 15 year old sticking his member into the tight, delicious ham wallet of another 15 year old, it's worth it.

here's a quick review from usa today:

[ QUOTE ]

Nick Hornby specializes in movingly hilarious tales of emotionally neutered man-boys grappling with unwelcome adult problems, such as relationship breakups and career stalemates.

So it's ironic that the British author's most expressive and resonant work in recent years involves a boy who knows what it is to be a man.

In "Slam," 15-year-old Sam is a skate fanatic, a nice kid, moderately smart, with zero interest in the opposite sex until he meets hottie Alicia. She's from another class and seems unattainable -- until she isn't. They hook up. And then he loses interest.

So far, standard-issue teen rites of passage. Until, that is, Alicia announces that she's pregnant -- and having the baby. Sam has two choices: He can be a kid and run away, which he tries to do, or he can be a man and take responsibility.

Here's where Hornby's witty, gentle genius shines through. Sam does the right thing, with a little imaginary but poignant guidance from his idol, Tony Hawk. In another author's hands, Sam's saga would have a happy, neat ending and teach teens a lesson about safe sex and proper behavior. Hornby does that, but with such wise humor that you forget, as an adult, that the novel is meant for high-schoolers. In Hornby's hands, Sam's life doesn't sort itself out neatly like a pretty "Friends "episode.

wow, i need a cigarette after reading just that.

bbv4l, let me know if you plan on checking this book out at the local library.

(lol related story that has to do with this book - i was leaving barnes & noble today and walked past a 16-17 year old girl (class of 09 letter jacket) that was checking out this book's display. it took every ounce of self control in my body to not chat her up, because i'm pretty sure an employee woulda called the cops on me)
