Ok guys, I may have messed up what I wanted to say in my own OP. I didn't wanna turn this into "you damn kids don't know music", I just wanted to know which bands will still be kicking around in a few years.

If VH1 produced a Top 100 of the 80's feature back in 1997, would that list be any different from one they produce today? Which is another way of asking, how much does our estimation of artists relative to their contemporaries change over time (because one had real talent vs. one's being a fad)? It might be easier to answer this first before tackling the more general question.
