He's betting weak draws, strong draws, jacks, 7s with a better kicker, and all kinds of [censored] that has you beat or has great equity against you, so calling the flop bet because you have a pair is a bad decision. Calling with the intention of bluffing is different, and it's true that he folds a lot of it to your turn bet but I fail to see why you need a 7 in your hand to bluff (in fact I'd prefer NOT to, because then he's more likely to have one), and if I were to semi-bluff here I'd want more outs when called. fwiw a lot of people have been calling the turn bet a semibluff. ok whatever but if thats what its meant to be, then its pretty horrible, because a jack is never folding for six dollars. people just don't fold pairs for small amounts of money. you can overbet the $.50 pot for $6 bucks at nl100 and people just aren't gonna fold top pair ever.
and if there ever was a bad turn card to bet it on this is it, any draw that you were kinda ahead of is now beating you.

Let's be honest. Villain has complete air here a lot. The 9 isn't a particularly great card for your hand, but the fact that you could fold a better 7, get called by a flush draw/straight draw, and your FE is through the roof makes this bet quite excellent in my books.
btw... I almost always c/f the flop here. I do however think it's unfair to say this is gross of spew. Villain's range is pretty wide here and I don't think anyone can prove that Grunch's turn bet is -EV. On the other hand, I think the flop call is very close and could probably be shown to be -EV given the fact that lots of his AIR has very good equity against you.
