It is imperative that you first ask him what the five fingers said to the face.

OP,
Did he ask you this? Because if he did it's on your own fault for being an idiot.

Eegs,

Serious question. When someone randomly slaps you hard across the face, you don't on reflex just hit them?

Homer got it right. Just do what you would do if the girl weren't there. The fact that you were just like "WTF" instead of instantly striking the guy makes me think this was maybe more of a bitch slap than a "full force" slap and not that big a deal to handle without looking like a douche or pussy.

I assumed it was in between the "bitch" slap and the "full force" slap which is why OP was a little unsure of his move. If this was "full force", enough to ring your head and hurt your jaw, then your friend is a stupid ass and deserves to be hit real hard. If it was more of a bitch slap and he is any kind of decent friend then I think he deserves the chance to apologize and say he screwed up. If he refuses to apologize then there is gonna be a problem.

Serious answer... immediately slap him back, harder than he hit you, then say something like "what the [censored] is your problem?" and he'll realize he's being a drunk [censored], you still save face in front of your new girl and it doesn't escalate with your friend.

EL D...It was hard enough to make me "wtf" it but it didnt ring me or anything. Bottom line is it just looked bad and I didn't know whether the better thing to do would be return the favor or try to be mature about it and talk with him after. I took the 2nd route and we're cool now I just didn't know if I handled it right after.

Eegs, you seem like an awesome friend. Let's go have some drinks sometime and I will let you practice your face slap reception technique with me.

I don't get why people get a pass on [censored] like this because they're drunk. I've been very wasted and never done anything of the sort. Now that his inhibitions are down he can do what he's wanted to do all along, or thinks he can get away with?

I once caught someone I thought was a friend peeing on my car at a party. He got KTFO. When I went to pick up some personal property of mine this individual had, he apologized, but for me our friendship was over.

I don't think this person is your true friend.
