Default Best place to go to play legal poker near NYC?

I'm going to New York City for the Dream Theater 20th Anniversary show at Radio City Music Hall on April 1 (Yay!). I would like input on where I should go to play some cards.

I don't want to try any of the NYC clubs, because I would pretty much be a tourist.

I don't mind driving a couple of hours, but length of trip should be considered as a factor. But I'm willing to drive a little farther for a better experience.

Availability of a room at a poker rate would be nice. And interesting things to do other than poker nearby would be a plus.

Foxwoods intrigues me, and I'd be willing to go that far. Of course there's Atlantic City. The only places I've ever played live are Tunica, Biloxi, and on one of those cruises in Jacksonville, so I know nothing.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Atlantic City and it's not close. Two or two and a half hours away.

Go to Foxwoods.

I think you couldn't pick a bigger week for Poker at Foxwoods all year.

My thoughts. (bias towards cheap easy)

Take a bus from NYC.
www.foxwoods.com/Resort/GettingHere/ByBus.aspx
Call and ask where all buses leave from.
(I say this for three reasons:
1. If you ain't from around here you might get lost and if you are on vacation it ain't worth the stress. (Foxwoods is like 2 hours outside of NYC, basically in the middle of nowhere.)
2. Free Buffett. Check to make sure what deal but for taking the bus you get some kind of deal or package. (Free Keno or Buffett)
3. Reason number 1 again
4. Tolls and gas. (If you take a car you could explore CT but I don't know what would interest you?)
Here's the poker site:

Here is the weeks action:

Have FUN!

The action might be crazy, but won't the waits and the crowds be crazy too? That'd send me to AC.

OP mentioned something about the availability of poker rate rooms...during a big event I wouldn't think Foxwoods would have rooms at all, much less cheap ones.

Plus, Foxwoods is two hours outside of NYC only in the dead of night if you drive with a lead foot. And that only gets you to the edge of the Bronx. Greyhound says it's between 3 and 5 hours each way, depending on how much time you get to waste in New Haven.

Factor in AC's multiple casinos, providing something good no matter what your definition of good, and the ability to get to another room easily if the staff/dealers/players/ambience/whatever suck, and it sounds like AC to me.

I would pick AC. nothing against foxwoods in of itself but if it happens to be too busy or too dead when you get there you will have wasted your travel time. easier to get cheap rooms in jersey, and lots more selection overall. more non-casino stuff to do on the boardwalk too.

Yes he could. The WPF in the fall is much bigger than the NEPC.

For what he wants, AC will be better. Slightly shorter, but infinitely more comfortable drive, more choices, shorter waits. Unless he wants to play in a medium level tourney, that is.

Well, plans just got altered a bit, as Dream Theater is playing in Boston on March 30 in addition to NYC on April 1, and of course I'll be attending both shows.

This makes Foxwoods a lot more attractive, of course.

So, I want to thank you guys for all your input. Now at least I know the two best places to go and the plusses and minuses of each.
