They have a question mark next to the canadian dollar cause so many americans were confused. It just kinda encapsulates the awful state america is in

Meh whatever. I took it that he was refering to this statement "It just kinda encapsulates the awful state america is in", which says nothing about United States singular or plural. But it's not worth arguing anyways.

No, America is not in a state, it's made up of multiple states. Maybe you're thinking of Washington D.C., that's is in Virginia [a state].
