[ QUOTE ]
Demon, Juan Pierre .293 BA Prince Fielder .288 BA Juan is a better hitter than Prince, right? [/ QUOTE ] there are like 10 other ways to compare batters (and there are different kinds of batters), i dont know many other ways to compare fielders besides errors and fielding % (and there arent that many ways to play shortstop) so ur analogy is terrible |

Re: Jimmy Rollins - Philly sports talk radio rant
There are numerous fielding metrics. Fielding percentage completely removes the most important skill a fielder could have - range.

Would that be good? |

[/ QUOTE ] 1) i said i responded quickly and fielding % is the quickest way to check fielding stats 2) saying that i believe there's only 10 ways to compare hitters shows your incomprehension becuase i was just throwing a number out there, which is pretty clear to any observant reader 3)i agree that (number of balls hit in area / balls fielded) is another very good measure of comparing fielders, but like i said, i responded quickly and just went to mlb.com to refute what the OP said about Hanley being a better fielder than Rollins u guys are blowing what i said way out of proportion 4) saying rollins was clutch is not a level if you watched the 2nd half of the season |

Re: Jimmy Rollins - Philly sports talk radio rant
Fielding percentage may be a more worthless stat than batting average.

Re: Jimmy Rollins - Philly sports talk radio rant
I haven't watched Rollins enough to assess him as a fielder, but whoever suggested that Reyes was just "flashy" defensively doesn't know what he's talking about. Reyes' defense is not notable for being "flashy" but for being very consistent.
I'd be surprised to hear that Rollins has Reyes' range. |
