Check out game 4 from that link (Ingvar vs. Snorri). At first I thought white was completely and utterly retarded, but as the game unfolded, well... What do you guys think of white's play here? Any countermoves?

my only real question is- why is white so keen to settle for a draw?

In what position? Even if he plays g4+ and takes back the queen he is still down 2 rooks.

This is why a line like this is not a significant novelty, though. It doesn't improve the evaluation of the position for White unless someone can find an improvement at some stage. It will end up as a line strong players have to be aware of in open tournaments when their opponents are happy to draw as white, and a gimmick that is used when both players agree to draw in advance.

well i think 8. e5 is far from the best option for white. i think 9. Bb5+ isn't so hot either. this seems like the "let's see how bad we can [censored] things up without actually losing" line.
