is there value in capping the river?

How often do you think you win that one additional bet ?

He must have a hand that is at least tied with a straight at the very least or else he's pretty bad . He may have had two overs and picked up a flush draw ott which beats yours. He may also have a fh which is consistent with a pre-flop raise with 5's , 6's or 7's . In any case , I have no problem with just calling the river unless he's a maniac who over-plays his hands and bluffs frequently .

I don't have any evidence for this, but based upon my experience there is no reason to cap this river.
