Default Mannys value

his value as a baseball player always seems to up for debate, mostly due to his constant trade demands and such. i for one have been extremely vocal in wishing he were traded for some quality ML'er and prospects. others think the red sox would be toast without him. regadless, here is an article by the famed MGL on what manny is 'worth'. this is a really good read regardless if whether or not you give a rats ass about manny.

MANNY

i pray to god the mets are 3 games back of philly at the deadline and they feel manny is the answer. fwiw, i love the guy and think he gets a bad rap for just being an oddball.

I think Manny's intimidation factor is often overlooked at the plate. Even though he's not overly big, he's got a real presence at the dish that just riles a pitcher. And because of it it makes the guys hitting in front of him that much better.

Manny has to be the last player still under contract from the insanity that was the 2000 offseason, right?

Since he's only got two more years remaining, I think a deal is real possibity in the offseason.

This is especially telling:

Total Projected Linear Weights Per 150 Games

Bonds 73
Cabrera 26
Bay 19
C. Jones 18
Dunn 18
Manny 9

Salaries

Manny 19 mil
Bonds 18
C. Jones 11
Dunn 7.5
Bay .75
Cabrera .472

Yikes.

Take Manny out of that lineup, and Ortiz never again sees a hittable pitch.

Wow. I will guarantee Minaya goes after him given the chance, Minaya is really starting to get on Mets' fans nerves.

vs lefties put vartitek in the four hole (or pena)
vs righties put nixon in the three/four hole (or choi, etc)

this is of course assming the red sox wouldnt pick up another quality bat IPO of ramirez. also, whats so bad about 'not getting pitches to hit'? seemed to work ok for barry bonds.

And there's really no evidence for "protection" anyway.

That's really weird. I saw on SportsCenter today some baseball dude was saying that Thome will provide Konerko with protection. I was going to go on here and ask, but never mind.
