Anyone know when the exact date of the new room is supposed to open? Games offered? It should be soon. Otter?

October 3rd if there is no state shutdown. They'll have 8 tables and I hear there is room if they decide to expand the poker room. It was also rumored that they'll offer higher limits, but I doubt we'll know the truth until they open. If 500 people show up and everyone wants to play $50-200 then that's probably what they'll spread

No shutdown and even if there was a shutdown the casinos already got approval to open on the third. Only 8 tables which really sucks Greektown has 18 and even MotorCity has more tables. I have not been to Motor City in a while, but the last few times I was there they had lists for every game. Greektown almost always has open tables, but you sit a hell of alot sooner there then Motor City.

I still cannot believe they are only going with 8 tables to start. I just hope they spread higher LHE games.

The casino opened at 12am on October third. Apparently, there was an hour and a half wait to get into the casino, and they had 6 tables going for poker, most of which were 1-2 NL. I've heard all kinds of crazy rumors, like they will only have high stakes games, they are offering people from outside detroit free flights and rooms if they play high stakes poker, etc, but no one really know what MGM will be like for a few weeks yet.

This afternoon most of the games were $1-2 as well from what I heard

Can you call ahead to reserve a seat yet? I tried calling the main number and all you do is wait. Reminds me of G-town.

What the casinos in Detroit like? Is the 1-2 loose or tight? What is the best place to play, etc. Originally from Detroit, now in Tampa, moving back in a few weeks, I only played at Casino Windsor before leaving. Very fishy there, I couldn't play and was a consistant winner there.

I went in today around 11pm. It's on the 2nd floor and they had 8 tables with only 7 being full. The biggest game they had was $100-$300NL w/ $2-$5 blinds. I'm not sure if anything else was being spread. They had a $300 min, $5-10nl game running earlier in the day, but it broke up.

There was a rumor that players were going to get comped $1/hr. That was false. No comps, no sandwiches, no free soda, no hot dogs, no view.

The chairs are similair to Bellagio and for now they're REALLY comfortable.

The tables are like MGM Vegas which I don't like. They have the marble around the rail which makes it kind of hard to stack a mass of chips.

They have 4 flat screen TV's (that weren't working, but it is the first day). Two are on the wall opposite the podium, one is on the wall to the right. I'm not sure if they had one above or near the waiting list, but I don't think so. It's possible that you can be sitting at a seat without a view of the TV. I imagine that the wall that doesn't have the TV mounted on it is one that they would knock out if they expanded.

The pit boss says they plan to expand and he hopes they'll get bigger games.

So after all this time the poker room was pretty unspectacular (the rest of the casino is very spectacular-afterall they spent $800,000,000).

The poker room is on the second floor. As you get out of the elevators there is a really sweet lounge to the right(Ignite) which also has a counter where they serve Tapas. There is fire all around and it's a hell of a nice lounge. In fact there are 3-4 bars and they are all really nice. They do have a dj table/booth and the floorman said they plan to have music playing often. I'm not sure how loud that would be, but it's only about 20 steps from the poker room. Perhaps it will be soft, lounge type music.

In the middle of the main casino there is a circular lounge that is really cozy. They also have a nightclub and music was jamming. There were a couple other nice bars, but I didn't spend much time checking them out.

The restaurants are top notch and there is a Wolfgang Puck's.

All in all the casino was really awesome. It was very Vegas-like and if I you're going to spend time in Detroit and are looking for a nice place to have some fun I would definitely recommend MGM. They spent a lot of time and effort and money on everything but, as you might expect, they neglected to put any thought into the poker room.
