Default Home Poker Dealer

It's been a long time since I last posted here (like 2 years) and I'm sure this topic has been dealt with, but please bear with me.

I'm a university student who finances my my eduction as poker dealer in a local casino. Unfortunately casino life and education don't mix, and rapidly burning out. I do enjoy dealing and would like to continue but with a schedule that is more flexible, something my current employer is unwilling to do. I figure a possible solution to my problem is to deal freelance in home games, parties, etc.... For only tips, no fee. I'm curious if their is a market for such a service, and if so what poker players would like from a dealer in their home game.
I know what I would want, but I think my expectations may be skewed from my time working in the casino.

i would be wary to do this... if you are working for just tips you dont want to go a game where you know nobody and have them stiff you all night. also, working for a fee may be illegal im not really sure on that.

fwiw i think it is a good idea but i would try to do at games where you know people and know the enviornment is ok, and where the players will actually tip. i play in a game where a couple of the players who host will take turns dealing for tips and it works fine. we play 1/2 and they make a minimum of 500 id say (granted they deal for about 8-10 hours).

as for what people want, id say just pay attention and keep the game organized. thats enough for me.

I've looked into the legality behind it, In Canada and sort of home poker is technically illegal. That being said, the only time a poker game has ever been busted around here has been high stakes games run by local gangs.
I would likely developed my initial player base from current players at me local casino. Players have mentioned home dealing to myself and other members of the dealing staff before, but we usually shy away form the topic because if caught we would lose our dealing licenses (not really an issues if I'm not working in casino). The time isn't a big issues for me, I regularly deal 11-13 hour shifts (for way less than $500/night), 8 is actually a pretty short night, lol

You simply need to find a couple of weekly home games and work out an arrnagement with these players on what you would get paided.
As far as I know home games are not illegal. Home games that get raked would be.

my bad, I ment to say "ANY sort of home poker is technically illegal"

house games are technically considered a form of "common betting house" by part 7 of the criminal code, and common betting houses are lumped in with common gaming houses and brothels under the category of "disorderly house".
Just being in, or owning, a disorderly house can earn one up to two years in jail.

However, the only times I've ever heard of house poker games being taken down as common betting houses are when they have been high stakes games run by gangs (lol I know a guy who got nailed in a 15/30 PL game).

a simpleish explanation of the whole thing can be found here
