Default Yanks offer job to Girardi

Being reported on ESPN.com 3 years 6 million. I say good hire if he takes it, and last year the rumor was that he has always wanted it.

So, do you think Mattingly stays on as bench or hitting coach?

At first I was happy with Mattingly, but there is no doubt in my mind now that Girardi is the guy to hire. If you are going to center your team on young pitching, he is a good choice.

I would be surprised if Mattingly stays, but that is just an opinion, no real evidence to back it up. Just the fact that he put himself out there saying he wanted the job, and probably expected the job.

By making the offer to Girardi it seems to me the Yankees are pretty much accepting the strong possibility that Mattingly leaves the organization in unhappy terms.

Girardi's strength is considered to be his knowledge of pitching.

An example to that would be the success he had with Florida's young pitching staff two seasons ago, but I guess you can counter that with saying he pitched them to much which in turn led to them having bad seasons this season. But I don't follow the Marlins enough to make an educated guess about that.

Mattingly says he's gone. Or at least says as much without saying it in comments sent to WFAN.

So basically he raped the arms of all Marlins pitchers... so he's great to have for young pitchers?

Yankees will get owned if Girardi rapes Joba/Hughes/Kennedy/etc.

ya i mean i guess you can counter with the "facts" but lets just say girardi is good at handling pitching and leave it at that... ugh, I assume the yankees have turned the corner and are smart enough now to realize that they can't kill their young arms,(see joba rules) and they hired girardi after talking with him about this matter in great details

Absolutely no way he stays on with the yankees. If Torre gets a job elsewhere he could go be a bench coach there.
