ok so we have found a new place (phat crib yo) with a few other friends so its like REAL WORLD now.
anyways, we want the sec deposit in escrow (it will be ~5000) anybody know the least painfull way of doing this? should we just use a local RE agent?

Generally, the landlord is required by law to do this for you. You just make a check to them for the deposit, and they establish an escrow account in which to deposit it. Are you in MA? This is true there.
