Re: RIP Luciano Pavarotti
[ QUOTE ]
This is a huge loss. It would be like Tiger Woods dying or any currently living figure that is the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) at their profession. Woods being the biggest superstar ever in golf, Pavarotti being the biggest superstar ever in opera. [/ QUOTE ] More like Jack Nicklaus dying - Pavarotti wasn't at the top of his game. Also, arguably Caruso was bigger http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrico_Caruso |

Re: RIP Luciano Pavarotti
By every measure, Pavarotti was bigger than Caruso. An interesting statement by Carreras:
[ QUOTE ] Carreras told reporters in Karlstad, Sweden, that "there is no doubt that he has been one of the most important tenors of all times." "I remember that last time I was visiting him in his town in Modena, at his home, he was preparing some special bread and tomato for me together with prosciutto. He was entertaining also in the gastronomic aspect that he liked very much," Carreras said. "We have to remember him as the great artist that he was, the man with such a wonderful charismatic personality, very good friend and a great poker player." [/ QUOTE ] |

[/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Yes, but Caruso sold millions of records in pre-TV, pre-Internet times. He couldn't appear at World Cup ceremonies etc. I've been watching Pavarotti videos on Youtube and it's very hard to find any of the good stuff on which his reputation was based. Instead I just see execrable duets with the likes of Bryan Adams, Barry White, The Spice Girls, etc. Some Caruso: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ozan4D5Fy...ed&search= |
