I've dropped this thing maybe a dozen times since I got it a month ago and it's getting weird tics and [censored] that tell you it's [censored] up (i.e. my camera is randomly night-vision-goggle green). Wtf?

OK, fair enough the separate thread I started on this got locked.

Anyway, curious what sort of applications you expect / would love to see developed for the iPhone by next spring (the platform that will allow developers to write software won't be released until February). Two that jumped to mind immediately for me were a voice recorder, and a way to copy and paste text, both of which would be really helpful.

I also read that apparently they should be able to develop some pretty cool programs that take advantage of the motion sensor, but I'm having trouble imagining what these might be (maybe a pedometer for instance?)

So, 6 months from now, what sort of new apps can we expect on the iPhone?

Don't have much to add, just a problem w/n the first month of ownership. Somehow, without ever dropping it or any sort of electonic trauma, the bottom row of the keyboard, no matter if it was the sideways or regular version, wouldn't work. No space bar, no access to the numerical/symbol section, no .com. They just replaced it, but it sucked for 4 days.

I don't understand the iPhone love. In case it hasn't been posted, this is really good perspective on the whole thing:

I seriously don't hope you actually think that's a "good perspective" on the iPhone. One, he hardly even talks about it. Two, many of the things he talks about can be done simply by hacking the iPhone, which my friend did within a week of getting it and was quite easy. I have Clipse - "Zen" as my ring tone ^^

I hacked my iphone over the weekend and the added functionality is amazing.
I'm still exploring tons of apps but so far I've added:

MobileRSS: RSS reader

VNotes: A voice recorder for taking noes.

NES: a Nintendo emulator

gpSPhone:a Gameboy advance emulator (still a little laggy on a lot of games, but its still in its infancy)

iFlicker: allows you take a picture and upload directly to flickr.

SendSong: allows you send a song from your iphone as an email attachment.

Apollo: a mobile AIM client

Sketches: a paint program that allows you to paint on a blank slate or a picture.

Swap Tunes: Creates a secondary library for your music. This allows you to sync your ipod to multiple computers without losing the music you already have on your iphone.

The process of jailbreaking the phone was incredibly easy and free, no hardware involved, just visiting a web site from the iphone safari browser. The process is far easier than you would think. I am not not a computer guru by any stretch of the imagination, this is doable for anyone who can follow simple instructions.

Will updating software on ITunes brick the phone like other jailbreaks?
