Default Brain/Body Damage over long run MMA vs Boxing

Lets say you have 2 fighters. 1 is a pro boxer the other is a pro MMA fighter (based on UFC rules). Both have the same win loss record, same time spent being a pro, and same weight class and body build. Which one of these fighters will experience more brain and body damage in the end?

Story about Benoit's brain damage.

heres some interesting quotes:

[ QUOTE ]

Julian Bailes of the Sports Legacy Institute, show that Benoit's brain was so severely damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]

Bailes and his research team say that this damage was the result of a lifetime of chronic concussions and head trauma suffered while Benoit was in the wrestling ring.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]

"Our research shows that three concussions may be the threshold for lasting damage," Bailes said.

In MMA they stop the fight. In boxing your corner needs to throw in the towel.

The question is really tough because you are mixing brain & body damage. Brain damage it's obviously boxing. Body it's obvioulsy MMA. Combined? I'll go for boxing being worse because while not walking sucks, being a braindead moron would be worse. Plus, I don't think any MMA guys have yet to have a paralyzing type injury, so none of the body injuries are extremely permanent.

Brain damage is way worse for you than body damage.

boxer's take way way more damage, especially brain. while I wouldn't say it's half, many fights in MMA are stopped by submission, which apart from maybe a tweaked arm or leg doesn't result in much long term injury. very rarely is someone in MMA KO'ed in the traditional "10 count" sense. and as for decisions, the UFC rules are so boring alot of decisions are just dance contests so not much damage there either.

The boxer.

The standing 8 counts actually let the boxer be injured more in the longterm.

Go to go with boxer, mostly talking about brain damage. Like Bernie says, the standing 8 count, no good for brain. Better to get hurt, guy jumps on top, lands a few more, can't defend, fight over. Some of these boxers just refuse to go down, like a chicken with the head cut off won't die, they are out of it, but fighting out of reflex and habit, round after round.

Plus a fight ending in a submission, no brain damage done at all
