Default Unregistering for the WSOP

I pre-registered for Event 25, sent in $2000, but now it looks like I may not be able to make that event. I would hope to play another event, but perhaps not at all. The confirmation email I got says this:

"your funds have been received. Please proceed to the World Series of Poker Cashier window upon your arrival at The Rio Hotel All-Suite Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, NV to complete your registration. Please arrive at least one hour before your earliest event. Your funds maybe
applied to event registration at that time or for any other use."

I assume that last bit means I can show up at the cage and get back my $2000 if I'd like, either in cash or chips. But I was wondering if anyone here had actually "unregistered" like this.

Also, would I have to do it before Event 25? The confirmation doesn't say anything about which event, so I assume I could show up later in the tourney, show my confirmation and still have $2000 to use for entry or to get back.

Could I show up after the WSOP was over?

I hate non-answers like this, but I would call them. I had a question about the registration process and called the toll free number and left a message. A very nice lady called me the next day to answer my questions. Give it a shot an avoid all uncertainty.

Not exactly the answer you want, but it is relevant to the discussion while answering your question. From the WSOP press center:

WSOP Issues Important Warning on Seat Scams

FRIDAY APRIL 20, 2007 9:00pm PT

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

The World Series of Poker has received several inquiries from individuals who have been offered discounted $10,000 Main Event seats. In each instance, they have received either an email or instant message from someone claiming to have won a $10,000 seat in a satellite event. The sender claimed he could not play in the tournament and offered to sell the seat for $6,000.

We recommend recipients of such emails or instant messages ignore them. Pre-registered seats cannot be traded or sold. Harrah’s shall not honor transferred registrations and shall not be liable in any way for its refusal to do so. Furthermore, individuals who have pre-registered for WSOP events can receive a full refund of their payment if they are unable to participate, as long as they request the refund before the event starts. Ask yourself this: Why would an individual accept $6,000 for a seat he allegedly won when he can get the full $10,000 refunded?

The 2007 World Series of Poker Presented by Milwaukee's Best Light will begin June 1 at the Rio® All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. More information on the tournament is available at http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com.

The WSOP is operated by a subsidiary of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET - News). Harrah's is the world's largest provider of branded casino entertainment through its operating subsidiaries. Since its beginning in Reno, Nevada, nearly 70 years ago, Harrah's has grown through development of new properties, expansions and acquisitions, and now owns or manages casinos on four continents. My question had nothing to do with unregistering, so would not be relevant to this thread.

Thanks for your help. I called this number (702-777-7617), which I found on the wsop rules page, and I talked to a couple of very nice people who said it would be no problem. I don't even have to show up.

The gentleman said they were just now starting to process refunds, and he would email me in a few days and get the details on how I'd like my money back. I assume they'll send me a check.

I will post again and let you know how things progress from here.

P.S. Even though I still may be able to play in the event for which I registered, I decided it's better to just get the money back. Since I was planning to arrive the night before, I will just buy in in-person for whatever event I end up playing. (I've been told that's not a problem, and they won't sell out.)

Just an update...

It has been eight days since the afforementioned phone call and I still haven't heard anything from the WSOP or received a check.

I called yesterday and today, left messages both times. Hopefully this gets resolved soon.

OT: does anyone know what the preregistration rates for the 10K ME are? I know you select your payment option, but I can't find where it say how much you have to pay in the deposit.
Anybody, if not no big deal.

Correct. It's not a "deposit". You are prepaying your entire entrance fee. And I thus don't understand why people do it. You're giving Harrah's your money weeks in advance and you gain nothing from it. Indeed, as is being demonstrated by OP, you can end up suffering because of it if your plans change or you get sick. Long as you tell 'em prior to the tourney start, you can get it back (in theory), but it's always going to be annoying and Harrah's has no reason at all to worry about hurrying and every reason to be slow to make refunds.

Just get a money diaper and sit on your cash on the plane trip out.
