I used to play baseball, so, either the ping when you hit a line-drive w/ an aluminum bat or the gritty sound of cleats on cement. Who remembers the classic bats? Z-core, Connextion, the Platinums were my fav.

the sound the audience makes during a hard football hit. I always say "oooooh" when someone gets nailed, but when you can hear the whole audience making that noise at the same time you know they got decked.

also, the silence that the home team makes when their team blows the game at the last minute, ala VT vs. BC.

This may not be my favorite sound in sports, but it's my favorite DESCRIPTION of a sound in sports:

Bill Simmons describes audience reaction to boxing KO

Hitting the sweet spot with a bat (metal or wood) sounds so awesome.

[/ QUOTE ]

I figured this would be the first response.

The sound of a baseball thwacking right in to the webbing is also very rewarding.

[/ QUOTE ]

As a first baseman, I always loved hearing the thwack of the ball hitting my glove a split second before I felt the runner hit the base.
