I took a shot at 10/20PLO and....
so today i decided i wanted to play some PLO on Party Poker. I am a regular 1/2nl and 2/4nl holdem grinder on Party. However, today for some reason i felt like playing a decent sized omaha game. only problem, the only game going above 1/2 is 10/20. so i think "meh, ive been doing pretty good overall lately, and ive fattened my bankroll a lot since march. ill give the big game a shot."
end result. down 1.7k. i dont think i played bad but the opposition was pretty tough. only got involved in one big hand. this guy had been fairly aggro and a bit loose so i dont think my play was that bad. but feel free to criticise if you think i shoulda played it different. #Game No : 5892608613 ***** Hand History for Game 5892608613 ***** $ 2,000 USD PL Omaha - Friday, April 20, 02:56:21 ET 2007 Table Table 127619 (No DP) (Real Money) Seat 3 is the button Total number of players : 8 Seat 1: crowing ( $ 2,181 USD ) Seat 3: GummeeBear ( $ 811 USD ) Seat 5: soney44 ( $ 2,588.50 USD ) Seat 7: Laysen ( $ 5,400.10 USD ) Seat 8: GODSPEED__ ( $ 12,964.12 USD ) Seat 9: monika13 ( $ 1,000 USD ) Seat 10: Byrrrr ( $ 5,170.50 USD ) Seat 2: fitboy912 ( $ 930 USD ) soney44 posts small blind [$ 10 USD]. Game #5892609966 starts. i bought in for 1k before this hand happened then rebought for 2k with the intention of quitting if i got below 500 or if i got above 4k. in the end the game got shorthanded and i slunk away with a little over half my second buy in. whilst i normally play 6-10 tables, i only 1 tabled this game to give maximum attention to it. however, this being my first shot, i realised that being underrolled is such a big disadvantage. i had this funny sort of sick feeling in my stomach the whole time and i felt like i was being taken out of my comfort zone. luckily i knew that i have the discipline to leave before i exceed the limit i set for myself, otherwise things could spiral out of control very easily. i definately understand how a lot of people blow through a 6 month in the making bankroll in a day. its as easy as clicking on a table 10 times your usual, steaming for hours and dontaing your whole stack. i dont know if the other players picked up on my fear and lack of high limit PLO experience. i figured that the player pool for 10/20 PLO is probably pretty small so i might stand out a bit and thus be a target to get run over. this will be my last shot taking exercise for a while. back to my regular games for now. |

Re: I took a shot at 10/20PLO and....
This is why I simply never take shots anymore without being rolled for the next level (which is still pretty small truth be told). I simply can't shake the sick feelings I get at the table when I try to play above my head. Even if I am in my element skill-wise, I feel none-so-great even making standard bets because I can't shake the feeling that I am wagering a lot of money.
