I\'m not at all worried
Hell this bill is like a blessing in disguise for me anyhow...I needed a few months off to clean my house and lose a few pounds anyway...Bottom line, they cannot stop us from playing for more than a few months or so. I mean, there are still child porn sites out there that people are making $$$ from as I read in an article this week, and people are still stealing movies and music from the net. Its simply going to be ok as the gov'ment isn't as smart as the capital hungry guys out there that will meet this poker demand.
U never know, perhaps this is an opportunity for some of us to open our own poker rooms if we can figure out some loopholes ourselves. Now is a good time to take a break from the game. These events really challenge us and make us question our love and loyalty to this game but there is no way that poker comes to an end. Indy |

Re: I\'m not at all worried
Good points and as many have stated we're just going to have to wait and see how this plays out. Man I sure don't want to head back to the B&M scene but I can if need be.

Re: I\'m not at all worried
Hope you are right Indy. But good poker games require a concentration of players. This legislation will significantly reduce the volume of players, and hence the quality of the games. I am sure many hardcore players will keep playing but this bill is gonna chase away many, if not all, casual players. Even the people who understand that this bill did not criminalize playing poker will be reluctant to jump thru new funding hurdles and risk money in much shadier offshore companies.

Re: I\'m not at all worried
I already have my plan set up. If the ban sticks, I'll be living in Canada by the time the 270 day grace period expires. Seriously, I'm tired of the government overstepping all boundries in its zeal to decide what's best for me.

you could hurt yourself with critical thinking like that
I strongly agree with your decision to take some time off, because you are not thinking clearly right now. Your post, and the many similar posts, are embarrassing. I don't mean to pick on you. There are lots of people who have posted similar thoughts in the heat of the moment. But your post is the one I happened to reply to.
You say: I mean, there are still child porn sites out there that people are making $$$ from as I read in an article this week, and people are still stealing movies and music from the net. Its simply going to be ok as the gov'ment isn't as smart as the capital hungry guys out there that will meet this poker demand. That is an idiotic argument. Yes, there will always be criminals stupid enough to kidnap a kid and take photographs of the criminal activities they commit with that kid. There will always be crackheads stupid enough to fund their addiction by cooking up some extra product in the microwave. Yeah, there are still a few fools who download on Grandma's computer and get her fined thousands of dollars to save themselves a buck an I-tunes. Most criminals are stupid people looking for a shortcut in life. I mean, that's your argument? That there are plenty of criminals out there to service your vices and that you're happy to deal with them? Friend, don't you see what a loser that is? Please think of an argument that doesn't class online poker sites with child pornographers, intellectual property thieves, and crack dealers! If your argument is, as it seems to be, that you're happy to commit a crime to continue playing poker, then you've got a problem and your existence is an argument for the other side, so you should keep it on the downlow in my humble opinion. |

Although Canada may allow online poker, you think that they have less regulation than the US? They have MORE regulation, and you'll might as well kiss off most of your income there while you're at it. Canada will decide many more things that are "best" for you. |

Re: I\'m not at all worried
Man I agree. I think when the smoke from all this clears, the republicans who needed this to get into office might have done so, but poker will be right back in business. It'll be nice to take a couple months off.

Erm, what? If the man can't earn any legal income in the United States, then obviously his life will be immeasurably better if he can re-locate to a country where he can earn a legal income.
