I have to teach a bunch of old, smart lawyers to play good poker. Help
Hey all,
I have been asked by a bunch of senior partners at my firm to put on a brief clinic for them on how to play good poker. They (and I) will be playing in a large charity tournament, and they want to have the skills to do reasonably well. They are all smart, obviously, but pretty green at poker. What are the top things I should be telling them? Thanks. |

Explain the basics of how the game is played, then uy a PXF subscription, then sit them down in front of it and let Bax/sheets do the work.

Re: I have to teach a bunch of old, smart lawyers to play good poker.
Position is king, very rarely open limp, 10bbs or less means it's push fold, don't minbet/minraise, Tight and Aggressive. I'd say these are decent tournament concepts for newbies, you can't really teach a lot of advanced plays as in a short amount of time it will do more harm than good, really just teach solid ABC tournament poker and make sure you touch on inflection points a bit.

I think all in or fold would be lame for this occasion. These guys dont really care about winning money i assume, they just want to play and look somewhat competent. Teach them basics, raise good hand, fold bad hand.

HOH 1 starting hands in a print out with comments would be a good place to start.
