it probably won't, but just put a plastic shopping bag over it anyway to make sure. i'd say disconnect it, but i imagine this is a dorm room, so just cover it up and you'll be fine.

edit: i used to do this constantly in college. a damp towel will work as well.

I got a smoke detector at the top of my basement steps that goes off anytime I broil something steaks/salmon ect. About 4 years ago my basement was the chill spot for a lot of my friends when I still smoked. Me and my friends would smoke cigs and weed (pretty much a party spot) while drinking and doing any other random drugs we were doing at the time and at no point did that alarm ever go off. I say its safe to do.

im pretty sure it doesnt go off, i smoke in my room alot no more than 5 feet from the detector

im pretty sure its not activated by smoke from a cig or joint, idk why, but mine goes off ev time i cook something as well but not when smokking, anyone asplain?

Some detectors detect heat instead of smoke. Also, I think you need more smoke than your average joint to set off a detector.

I've never heard of someone setting off a smoke detector from cigs or weed, but my memory is hardly crystal clear when it comes to those things.
