Honestly guys, I appreciate everything that has been said here. It is just extremely hard for me to change my outlook on things right now because I've been running hot and picking my spots wisely since I started playing full time 3 months ago. I know a downswing is in the works for all fulltime players, but it hasn't happened yet so why think about it until the day comes?

The idea of me walking away if I lose two buyins to maintain a clear head is only to assess how I played those hands, what I did wrong, and to correct the problem before I hit the tables again the following day. I'm still learning, we'll all be still learning until we quit playing so taking a step back and putting key situations into perspective seemed to be my best option to avoid it happening again (unless it was just a lameo bad beat). I dunno, maybe I'm wrong since many of you seem to have a different take on the subject.

sounds great and all but where do u see yourself in 10/5/1 year(s)? is this poker thing a longterm career choice? if it is a longterm career choice and you plan on bettering your quality of life (bigger house, nicer car, more vacations, etc) 200NL isnt the answer.

if you're doing this to make some quick cash then good luck to you, sir.

i dont think op means he is never going to move up he is just saying that right now he is extremely comfortable playing 1/2 and for the time sustaining a winrate to satisfy he needs and build his BR or maybe i suck at reading comprehension

Cannot imagine making over $30 an hour longterm at these levels.

Me, too. But that depends somewhat on the rake and buy-ins. But it sounds like the OP would be happy enough with that, for a while. $30/hr is an above average income for most people in this country. The bigger problem will come in a few years when it gets boring. OP might STILL prefer it to waiting tables or selling insurance or cubicling of whatever sort, but that will be the test.

You cant have a 400 dollar loss limit...it has to be when their is no solid meat to take a bite out of at the table. I play live 1/2 NL, and my best nights were when I had to buy in for 500 or so (game is 100 max)Bad players = higher variance!!! My best night I was down 500 at midnight, and getting ready to leave because I was so upset about losing...15 hours later I cashed out for 2500. The game was that good I couldnt leave.

If one can make 20-30 an hour playing poker, they will achieve these goals when combined with other small risk free and relatively risk free investments.

Not to mention if one is young they can take their profits and invest in more riskier investments.

I do not agree with your above statement.

Congratulations on your success. I am thinking of doing something similar soon in my local casinos (Europe)

What kind of strategy do you play ? TAG ABC poker ? Lots of value betting ? Any tips ? Anything you've learned that you wish you knew at the start ?

Good luck

Remember folks, the majority of LIVE NO LIMIT players are playing the game LIVE of the first time. ..........MANY FISH out there at the present time.

Florida 1-2 NO LIMIT is almost a license to steal right now. Some of the things I've seen in the past week down here are mind boggling.

the 400 dollar limit is a good idea. It's much harder to stay focused and objective after suffering two bad beats live. Online, its no big deal, but i think its harder to swallow at the b/m. Oh and $40/hr is totally doable at 1/2. Good luck, and take a shot or two at 2/5, don't just move into it cold turkey one day.

Yes I agree and let me suggest when your feeling really keen and sharp on any particular day ,THEN take that 2-5 shot. Your mental state is critical.
I take my shots when I`m feeling really on top of MYSELF.
You seem to have your mind well disciplined. All the best.

Again, a 1-2 NO LIMIT game may be a tougher game than some 2-5 games............THE BUY-INS are the determining factor in the game. Granted, a 2-5 game on most occassions allows for a bigger buy-in.

Having said that, routinely players bet $17 as a preflop raise in 1-2 and only $20 in 2-5.

Personally, I beleive both games are very similar.
