Re: Run/Lift or Lift/Run?
From the Rippetoe FAQ (see the sticky):
[ QUOTE ] Question - Should I do cardio before weight training or after? Or should I do it separately from weight training? Depending upon your goals and your exact cardio exercises and methodology, generally cardio is best kept separated from your weight training. The exception is the trainee who does cardio immediately postworkout while drinking a PWO drink. An additional exception is a "strength-based" cardio program, a.k.a. "GPP" or "Strongman training". It is strength training with a endurance aspect, for the most part. This type of strength training is well-suited for immediate postworkout. Whatever you do, do NOT do cardio BEFORE your weight training. This will hinder your strength and workout stamina, and that isn't cool at all. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Run/Lift or Lift/Run?
Run in the morning, lift at night, if you have the time.

Re: Run/Lift or Lift/Run?
I've read that if you have to do both together, you should lift and then run because it takes your body ~20 minutes to start burning fat. This way you use the lifting to get your body into gear to burn fat, and then you burn fat the entire time you're doing cardio. I have no idea if this is correct or not though.

Re: Run/Lift or Lift/Run?
lifting before running results in the maximum amount of calories burned during the workout.
Additionally, if your main goal is to build body mass, you do not want to deplete your glycogen (carbohydrate) stores before you lift during the cardio portion of your workout. |

Re: Run/Lift or Lift/Run?
I love running then going to lift. I actually feel much stronger and very warmed up when I get to the gym. It goes against the common practices, but it's what I've always done and have been successful with it.

Re: Run/Lift or Lift/Run?
I think it depends on hwo much cardio you are doing. if you are going to run or bike for 30 minutes before lifting i usually feel better. i have more energy because I am so warmed up.
