Dealer Tips at Canterbury
Quick question, do they pool the tips at Canterbury Park or do the dealers keep the tips they get?

Re: Dealer Tips at Canterbury
As far as I've heard, dealers keep their own tips. I could be wrong, and I'm sure one of the other guys who are there more than me would be able to tell you better.

They keep what they make. And no, they aren't rakin' in $40k+ as you've heard so much about.
Don't get me wrong, they do okay... |

[/ QUOTE ] Never been there, but if you do the math, you'd think dealer's are making $30+... Assume 17-18 hands per down. Gotta figure $15 in tips during said down. 2 downs per hour. Figure a dealer is dealing @ 6 hours per shift. 50 weeks a year, you're looking at $45k... Maybe I'm nuts but.... |

Re: Dealer Tips at Canterbury
I won't comment on your numbers, but also factor in tipping out to chip runners and dealer captains and whomever else... and the extra tips paid back when playing...

Re: Dealer Tips at Canterbury
I play there semi-often... but in the past few months i've seen a *lot* of dealers not getting downs because it's slow. I don't think they are getting in 6 hours a shift. If someone has better info I'd like to hear about it...

They must average at least 20/hr. [/ QUOTE ] Cred.=I know 2 of the dealers well enough outside of the card room to have been shown their paycheck and another 2 well enough to have inquired/ made jokes about rolling in the dough. Fact = mix of tables does not nec. promote $20/hr. We all know $15/hr=$30k/yr. 8 hr shift= 5.5hr of dealing (8 - breaks and changing tables). Plus, many full time dealers work less than 40/wk because it is slow, they get tired, schedule problems, etc. Variance = good weeks and bad, good shifts and bad, summer is slower. More high school + college kids playing in summer; don't fully understand/appreciate tipping (yes, a generalization but not so far of as it is unreasonable). Different shifts are more or less busy than another. Great point = the tipping hierachy...dealers to chip runners, cage workers, boards, servers, etc. With all that said, one of the aforementioned dealers works the swing (busiest) shift full time, is attractive, personable, and efficient(fast), not to mention popular. Makes <$37k/yr. |

Assume 17-18 hands per down. [/ QUOTE ] I think this is a hell of an assumption. Maybe it's just where I work but people take way too long to act at 1/2 NL and low limit games (which are the more popular games) to get out 18 hands in 30 minutes. Even if I did make 40k per year I am still technically part time so I have no medical benefits. |
