Default Don\'t assume too much

Sometimes I'm sure that a pot is going to be split and so I don't bother to value bet on the river. Sometimes I'm wrong and I kick myself afterwards. Case in point:

Texas Hold'em $0.50-$0.50 NL
Seat 1: SB ($82.45 in chips)
Seat 3: Hero [KS,AD] ($47 in chips)
Seat 8: CO ($52.95 in chips)
Seat 10: Button ($23.80 in chips)
ANTES/BLINDS
Hero posts blind ($0.50).

PRE-FLOP
CO calls $0.50, Button calls $0.50, SB bets $1, Hero calls $0.50, CO calls $0.50, Button calls $0.50.

FLOP [board cards 10D,JC,QC ]
Hero checks, CO bets $0.50, Button calls $0.50, SB bets $2, Hero calls $2, CO calls $1.50, Button calls $1.50.

TURN [board cards 10D,JC,QC,KD ]
Hero checks, CO bets $6, Button folds, SB calls $6, Hero calls $6.

RIVER [board cards 10D,JC,QC,KD,8S ]
Hero checks, CO bets $5, SB bets $10, Hero calls $10, CO calls $5.

SHOWDOWN
SB shows [ QD,10S ]
Hero shows [ KS,AD ]
CO mucks cards [ KC,9H ]
Hero wins $59.50.

Yeah, I hate these situations, because if you shove and it's a split, everyone calls you an [censored] for making them pay extra rake.

The players at my table were very aggressive so I slow-played it. I do it a lot and it works well.

If you raise the flop you take COs stack.

Raise the flop and lead the turn.

It works well if you want to win the least and lose the most.

See here for the recommended play with a monster.

Fiskebent,

You should only slowplay in special circumstances.

Example:
A maniac who raises every hand sits to your left.
You limp w AA.
He raises.
You reraise.

I will say the one thing I like about this hand is the river check/call. It allowed hero to capture an extra $5 from CO because any raise there gets two folds.

The flop and turn make me [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

Sometimes I don't understand the extra rake argument. Its my understanding, most rake structures have a maximum cap. So once the pot gets to a certain point you are increasing the rake minimally or not at all.

Not sure what site the OP HH is from but let's assume the hand took place on a Party .50-1.00 table where the rake structure is .05 on each dollar max 3 dollars:

Hero has to call 10 in a 45 (by my possible mistaken calculation) pot. Simply by making the call he increases the rake to 2.75 which is close to the max anyway. I think you might as well throw in a raise here.

Note: Once the original river bettor calls the extra five dollars the pot is 60 and the max is reached anyway.

PS: Looks like only .50 was taken in rake in the particular hand!
