Re: Official 2007 NHL Offseason Thread
blue: the real comparison is not between the defenders, but between the young players and old players. Pitkanen right now is not better than Smith, although he probably will be by the end of next season. Just because Pitkanen can skate circles around people doesn't mean he'll be any good - Oleg Tverdovsky found that out. And while the Flyers may have [censored] him up, it's not like the Oilers are that much better.
Lupul is also a nice commodity. and yes 7/49 for gomez is an absolute joke. gomez's type of player is not that valuable - the bruins gave marc savard 4/20 just last year, and he's about as good. are gomez's two cup rings and playoff experience really worth that much more? |

Re: Official 2007 NHL Offseason Thread
The New York Rangers have signed forward Chris Drury to a five-year deal worth $35.25 million.
The New York Rangers have signed forward Scott Gomez to a seven-year deal worth $51.5 million. LMAO @ OVERPAYMENT-AMENTS. Thank you Thornton! |

Re: Official 2007 NHL Offseason Thread
Also, what happens if the cap drops next year? Rangers are going to be in trouble. Overall, a sad day for the NHL... the lockout and the new CBA were supposed to prevent these ridiculous signings. Also, now that the cap is at 50m, it's almost useless. Small market teams can't spend that much, parity is lost.
