Default Just joined forums... introduction (long-ish)

Hi all,
First time poster, longtime lurker.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself to the forums. I have commited myself to five posts a day here for the next six months. I hope to learn a lot along the way, I will try my best to make useful contributions to this forum.

I would generally describe my poker level as, someone who has read/studied the principles of the game, but doesn't have the ability to apply those prinicples in the right places. in the past few years my game hasn't reached the level I have wanted it to, partly because of a lack of discipline... I still on occasion stack off with QQ against super-tight players who have basically spelled out to me that I am looking up AA/KK...
A wonderful example of this:

VILLAIN IS 40/20/2 OVER A WHOPPING 12 HANDS
Poker Stars
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $0.25/$0.50
5 players
Converter

Pre-flop: (5 players) hero is BB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
2 folds, Button raises to $1.75, SB folds, hero raises to $6, Button raises to $16.5, hero raises all-in $50, Button calls.

Vomit on keyboard... punch myself in the balls... repeat
My goals during the first few months with 2p2 are:

1.) stop multitabling... a player with as many leaks as I have should not be 4-6 tabling... for at least the next two months I will only single table at all times. then two tables if I am making progress... slowly adding a third when I'm ready (target=six months).

2.) Be more position aware. I too often find myself lost and out of position. Little preflop hiccups have led to some ugly pots for me.

3.) Better table selection... Too often I find myself content with being at a loose table, even though the two donks are on my left and 3 TAGs are to the right. I often don't work hard enough to put myself in profitable situations.

4.) Closely analyze each session when I'm done, and post any hands that are questionable after putting serious thought into them myself.

5.)Adjust my play better vs. different opponents. I am often hesitant to isolate LAG's because of postflop question marks/negative reinforcement from picking bad spots and getting crushed

6.) I also would like to be able to narrow my opponent's range based on the information provided. I'm sure single tabling and concentrating on hands I'm not involved in will be a key factor in this. I will constantly try to put my opponents on a range when not involved in a hand.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this commitment. My SN on Full Tilt is Crablegs_33, if you have any advice based on previous sessions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Badmeaningbad

Welcome and good luck. My suggestion is to find a handful of posters who you like/respect/trust and target their posts and pick their brain.

Sounds like you're ahead of most in a sense that you're not too proud to acknowledge your game isn't where you want it to be and seek to improve. Good luck!

Welcome to the forums.

I wouldn't stop multitabling if I was you. IMO the only way to learn is by doing, and doing is hard if you play 25% of the hands you could. I would stick to 4 tables (as long as you don't have any serious overlap) and try to do my best. Just post a lot here and don't be afraid to be corrected if your advice is flawed. I think that is the best way to learn (at least it has been for myself). The rest of your goals look pretty solid.

Btw, nothing wrong with that hand even is you are going to be shown AA or KK once in a while.

If you're used to 4-6 tables and drop down to one table, you may end up just getting bored. This may cause you play looser, which isn't really the desired effect.

Playing less than 4 tables??? Eek, my a.d.d. would not allow such shenanigans.
