I Hate Shortstackers 400NL

Sorry for no HH, on a friends computer.

Stars 400NL, effective stacks $80.
Edit: I play like a 20/16 game with about a 32% ATS.

I'm otb with ATss and open to $12, MT UR Wallet shoves for $80. Is this an instacall, instafold?

Basically I really don't know how to play against shortstacks at all. ATss is one of the stronger hands in my range otb, but in practice when i call here they always have like AJ or AK.

yes, without any reads. A8 is probably the lowest ace I would call with against an unknown shortstacker. But if he's any good at alllllll hes shoving super wide, for obvious reasons.

you have to put the shorty on a range and then just do your pot odds v that range


there is no one "shortstacker range"

all play a bit differently

When forming the shortstackers range, keep in mind that most shorties have dynamic ranges
ie...they know you open-raise x% of hands from that position, but will only call with y% v a push

Since I've played with you and shorted v you, I can tell you that ATs is an immediate call against any shorty that is paying attention as well as A8s

use pokerstove or SNG wizard and mess around to find things out


don't call as much as 0evg0 does v shorties, but don't fold as much as you do

I like your approach

it's +ev in the grand scheme IMO

for one, it adds tons of variance to shorties and most of them hate that

second, even if you lose, you aren't making a huge mistake in BB terms and it will cause the shorty to leave the table and open up a seat for a, likely, more appealing villain
