Default Brutal Car Crash -- Dealing With Whiplash

Yesterday my wife and I were driving on a county road in the finger lakes when I hit an ice patch. The car drifted left, I over-corrected and the next thing I knew we were doing NASCAR-style spins, with the back of the car doing the leading, at 55 mph.

I have no idea how the car (a '98 Ford Explorer) did not roll or flip. We went through a mailbox, into a thatchy bank and then down into a ditch backward.

I'm reasonably sure the seatbelts saved our lives. The car is likely totaled -- the back wheels and axels were shredded -- but we had no injuries other than whiplash.

It's not a severe case, but I'm in a lot of pain today. Anyone ever had whiplash before? I'm looking for anecdotal evidence that this pain will not last, like, forever.

But this is not to seem ungrateful. It's insane that we walked away from that crash.

I think that unless someone with medical training told you it was whiplash I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Get it diagnosed.

Glad to hear that you and Mrs daws are okay. Nothing else to add except my heart felt wishes that you both get well soon.
