I also vote for Pearl Jam - Last Kiss and Manfred Mann - Blinded by the Light.

I'm not sure I've ever heard the original, but I like Weezer's cover of My Velouria.

Someone mentioned the cover of There She Goes, the only thing I didn't like about that was after a while I realized that for the rest of my life I am a hundred times more likely to hear the cover than the original on the radio, when the original is so good.

I liked the Boys of Summer cover that someone did recently. And I like Green Day's concert version of Shout.

Didn't read thread yet, but here's what comes to mind. Please express all agreement and disapproval.

Wild Horses - The Sundays --> One of the few covers that truly changes the sound of a song, IMO. Very close, if not better than the original.

Blue Monday - Orgy --> First version by New Order was super bland, but probably cool at the time. Definitely a good job livening this song up.

All Along the Watchtower - Hendrix --> obv choice

Layla --> Eric Clapton --> If it qualifies as a cover, this may very well be the winner

Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana --> Because Nirvana rules and truly owns this song. I don't think most people have ever even heard the original.

[ QUOTE ]

I still love Pat Boone's cover album - the cover of Van Halens "Panama" was about the best on there.

This stuff was GREAT!!!

I also like Todd Rundgren's version of Never Never Land. The live version of this on Back to the Bars is actually better but I couldn't find a link to it.
