Why does baseball have this culture of not showing up the other team anyways? Most other sports have celebrations, whether jumping into the stands at Lambeau, celebrating after a goal in hockey or a huge dunk in the NBA, yet if someone pumps their fist after hitting a home run they've just shown up the pitcher. It's a game, it should be fun.

I agree, but I think 95 mph fastballs are your answer.

On a related note, apparently Larry Bowa got dick hurt because somebody was stealing in a 6 run game?

Especially given the offense of the trailing team. Pathetic.

Like others have stated, this wasn't Cal breaking a record or any of the examples given above...

This was the equivilent of TO busting out the sharpie...only, this guys a rook. Bad bad move and even he said so himself (at the strong suggestion of his team I'm sure).

...and yes, the response, in baseball, is the 95 mph chin music.

lol, seems (most) everyone is ready to bust out the typewriters and dish out the astricks for dissing history in the form of records, but when it comes time to respect a longlived baseball tradition such as not showing up the other team...everyone plays dumb.

It's called being bushleague. This isn't Bull Durham.

He'll be dealt with the baseball way...in time.

How is celebrating with the fans showing up the other team? Especially considering he was on his way to field his position and didn't cause any attention to be brought on himself, I'd just hate for a player to actually encourage fans to get in the game and feel like they are apart of what happens on the field...

Oh...I didn't realize that his normal route to right field ran along the stands.

Seems the more direct route does not...or I don't know...maybe he was running down to cover the corner.

Was a right-handed pull hitter up next??

Seeing as he is headed to RIGHT FIELD which is behind FIRST BASE and the Mets' dugout is on the FIRST BASE side of the field, then yeah, all those fans are kinda on the way to his position...
