fwiw, this is called "hand protection".

However, in this hand, if we are ahead, he probably has very few outs. Thus protection is not the major concern.

This comes from from limit stuff, the lower the pair you flop is the more vulnerable it is. It isn't awfully good idea to overly protect your weak hands but single bet on the flop on this or similar occasions (and give it up most of the time if called) is a proper way to approach it.

When I said protect, it reflects and probably dominates in respect to getting bluffed off our hand later on. Protecting our pot moreso then our hand.

And again, semantics (in regards to calling it 'hand protection') if you will. The motives behind our decisions are what is important, not the name you give it.

i would prefer a flop bet or a check call both to this

I agree with ae here... I dont see how we can call if shoved on. I much prefer c/c here, maybe leading some % of the time, but mostly c/c.

It's partially a semi-bluff because ideally we want better hands to fold, yet almost always have 7+ outs when beat.

And it's partially a protective bet, because we get worse hands to fold.

Not every bet is either a value bet or a bluff. .Point in case
