i dont think he ever folds a hand that beats you (because he wouldnt raise an 8 on the turn) he probably either has a pretty good draw or else has you in trouble.

i think i would call and the probably call most rivers.

folding the turn is probably not horrible either depending on his mood, how youve both been running, playing etc.

bob, i appreciate the input... the reason i changed my vote at the table, and what i am now considering is that he knows i am a thinking player and so may lay some of the winners down... but i think our history outweighs that fact...

so, if i am not 3-betting with given history etc, do we like a call down on given board getting 1:4 by the river?

[/ QUOTE ]

i know what you both had in this hand, so i can't make an impartial assessment. i can say, however, that this pot is way too big.

agreed with pot size statement, prior to this hand i thought my 3-bet folding equity was higher - for those not in the know, i 3-bet the turn was called and fired when the river was an offsuit ten, i was called and mhig

I knew the results of the hand to and though I dont like your line in this hand I wouldve liked even less had I not known the results. You were not going to get any productive criticism in this hand as it was mostly a read based play, but as Pbob has said you should not be making these type plays against opponents who know your style and have a profitable call down. Both of your reads were correct, but the hands could just as easily been reversed. Playing this way against good players only increases variance in spots where your edge isnt significant. If you had a taggish image I would call this play brilliant, except for the fact that this is a straddle pot and people are always suspicious that someone is making a play.

I knew you were full of [censored], too bad i'm a weakling and didn't 4 bet. when i called the river, you said "youre good", and then i started crying inside when you showed your hand. I'll learn how to play one of these days........

i like it mitch, i think the lack of fold equity is especially due to the straddle... when i originally started playing the 30 game i was tag and was able to use some of these strats because i hadn't shown cheese, now that i am seen as laggy i havent been able to go back!!! (been trying)
