Advice on moving up to NL 100$

For someone who's single, and places more value in free time etc. than in money, $50k a year is a pretty decent income. And if you have no burning desire to play with the big boys, one could be quite comfortable playing NL100 forever. Right, AJ? [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I kind of agree with this. Maybe I was just running poorly, but I thought NL50 was a bit rockish. I cant really think of any reason why this would be so, but thats the general impression I came away from the 50s with.

I once saw someone suggest that the $50s are filled with people who've moved up from the $25s, but the $100s have a lot of people who just started at that level because they have "real" jobs and it's not so much money for them. I'm a grad student, so I can't comment on "real salaries."

From what Ive heard Party NL50 consists of all the NL25 graduates. NL100 consists of less graduates and more gamblers, it is more of an entry point for the casual player.

Just move up. The 100 is no different than the fifty. In fact, the 200 is the same as well (just sprinkle in a few more good players).

If you can beat the 50 you can beat the 100.

I agree with all of the above, pretty much. I probably play at a different site than most of you, and it has 20-30-50-100 levels. The 20's and 30's can be quite rockish postflop even though they're loose-passive preflop; you had to hunt around to find people who would stack off gleefully with TPTK. At the 50's you'd often find tables where people were stacking off with gutshots on the turn; at the 100s people have a better idea of preflop play but they're just throwing money around postflop, they're often very loose and aggressive and totally clueless, which is a great mix, especially when you're LAGish yourself.

I just made the move from $50NL to $100NL, doesnt seem to be that much different. I found a bigger jump between $25NL and $50NL, than 50->100. I think I just had some big leaks that needed plugging, but now feel good for $100NL.

ya seriously, move up as fast as you can. any "pro" who is good enough to grind poker for a living will have a roll for 200 easily within 35k hands.

I couldn't disagree more with all of this. I agree with 4_2_it that if you can beat the 50's you can beat the 100's.

But if you're feeling like the 25's are harder than the 50's or the 50's are harder than the 100's, I'm shocked. Either you ran hot at the higher level or have poor table selection at the lower level.

Go back to Fim's post on when to move up. I'm not seeing jump straight to the 100's then work your way back down the 25's then jump to the 400's.

I make some awful and donkish plays sometimes but the 25's are full of new and horrible players. You run into a higher percentage of good players the higher you go IMO.

I have to disagree with most of the tone of this thread. I have played 20k hands at every level apart from 200. I have made adjustments and learnt something at every step.

There are fish at every level but in general, 200NL is tougher than 100NL is tougher than 50NL is tougher than 25NL.
