Default Re: online tougher than B&M???

[ QUOTE ]
I consider myself more of a live player than online player despite having nearly 2M hands in my PTDBs over the last couple of years, but online is where the money is at.

To have a comparable hourly rate compared to say a decent winning mid-stakes NL player that can grind 4-8 tables, you would have to be playing 10/20NL live at a bare minimum, likely 20/40NL or 25/50NL would have a better shot. Frankly you are not going to find that high of a game except in a couple of places, one of which you live in now...

Also be careful of all the "live is easy" that you will hear. As a general rule, this is correct, but it is also true that you will run into much better players live than you might think you would...

[/ QUOTE ]
I can make a good hourly rate 10-tabling online $200 NL. Effectively, I am playing the same blinds per hour as live 20/40NL. However, live NL games are much looser and the play is worse, so you can probably make a decent hourly rate playing live 5/10NL with more variance than multitabling onlin.

Playing for dimes online is playing like $1/$2 NL in a casino. B&M easier than online.

Exception: I've had a hard time playing in home-grown tournaments -- 5 man tables with 10 - 20 BB's stack to start. =P

Live is much easier, but a lot slower - if you 4-table, you're getting 250 hands an hour online, 30-32 live.

Live, the rake and the tipping will eat you up. I don't think live limit is even worth it. If there's a $40 pot, $5 ($4 + $1 for jackpot) gets taken out plus $1 tip for the dealer. You get $34. Forget about it.

The 1/2 no limit games in Vegas are pretty lose and the only way to overcome the rake because of the larger pots.

Online has really tightened up. Like many others, I didn't have much money on PokerStars and have been building from the bottom (I refuse to send money until they have an efficient system in place ie. pick up the fees or at least offer generous reload bonuses for all our efforts).

Well, the 5 & 10NL games now play like 25 & 50NL three months ago. Just as well I started over from the bottom - online poker might not be that easy anymore.

In places like California (where I have never been) I suspect that most players are "regulars" and are pretty good.

[/ QUOTE ]

Your suspicions are unfounded.

Live is getting more difficult because some of the American party poker bots are starting to play live.

You talking NorCal or SoCal?

Given its a sample size of 1, but I played at a Bay Area cardroom this weekend and the table was full of solid grinders.

I'll be goin' back for more though, so hopefully it was just the table.

I love how live, people don't bitch that it's rigged when some fishkey calls all-in pre-flop for $150 on $1/2 NL when some garbage hand, like 8-4o, and beats Aces.

Ive heard Socal is looser than norcal, and I live in the bay area right now. Theres ALOT of regulars, but thats actually ok. Alot of them are bad, and it gives you time to study their play if you are a usual appearance in the cardroom. Bay101 action is good, alot of loose money, and I heard Garden City is rediculous with action. Some of the smaller cardrooms like where im at ( Marina Club, Mortimers) can be tougher, but theres so much familiar faces you know who to bluff and who not to after a short while. I got a dime on quite a few of them and it helps me make a little extra. One thing, too , is california cardrooms are often attached to a bar, so on the weekends the drunk play can sometimes get nuts. Theres alot of people with alot of money to blow and have no problem pushing allin with their 1 outer because if they go bust, " what the hell, THeres another G in my wallet".

So yes, I believe your suspicions are unfounded, too. Theres always profit potential anywhere you go, you just have to adapt and overcome, find their weaknesses, and exploit them.
