i wish stack sizes were a tad bit smaller or a bit deeper on this flop -- i hate to make the c/r where opp gets a bonus $140 if he wants it -- but i'm not sure i can play it any other way at that point. i might have mitigated the problem a bit if i had just raised the full amount pre-flop.

This is what I meant when I said it looks god awful and that if you like taking 60/40's as the 40 this looks like a good spot. No way you're ahead unless he folds and if he doesn't you're in god awful shape because you arent ahead ANY hand. Tricky hand though, if he his 4bet range has a lot of rundown hands you could simplify the hand by 5betting to ~180$ish preflop and folding to a shove because it would be silly for him to shove anything but AAxx. It makes the flop decision simpler and less spewy because you are risking less to win a pot that is a lot bigger.

I think my opponent played it fine at each of his decisions, but do you also mean to suggest that every one of my decisions was wrong?

It's rare I get to play this deep against someone else that deep, so it's tough for me to say just 5-bet pot preflop if he's 4-betting you with a wide range just because I still wouldn't feel too good getting it in there for that many bets without Aces or a super-good medium run like JT89ds or something.

I don't know why $82 is that awkward, that's a bet naked Aces can make, and naked Aces should usually fold to the check-raise. I'd like it better if instead of two Kings you had a live Queen for two pair outs but that's nit-picking. Nice river, glad I'm nowhere near any of your games [img]/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

Pete, I play a lot multi-table HU with the same opponents too, and while I find myself making exactly the same kind of play that you made here in this hand, I have started to identify it as a leak in my game. The leak, being, that as you have probably seen, even though we try to convince ourselves that there is fold equity in that push, it is realistically very slim and what generally winds up happening in that spot is you either push into AAxx drawing slim, push into the coin-flip wrap draw (which I prefer not to do, don't know about yourself) or push into a 2pr, set, etc on the flop (since HU the range for 3 and 4betting preflop is so wide). I have been trying to stop check-raising overs with top pair on 4bet pots preflop... I'm not necessarily advocating the same, because HU it will oftentimes be the right statistical push, but it is definitely a bad habit to get into when the table becomes full and you haven't completely readjusted your mindset.

Is it really ok to 4 or 5-bet a rundown preflop? To me those are hands that I want to see the flop with and have enough money left to actually have some decisions to make.

In all honesty I'm not that crazy about rundowns. I don't think they are as great as advocated. Is this simply an incorrect opinion?
