Re: OT - Today, I am no longer a pro
[ QUOTE ]
i expect that increased win rate will continue for you. playing winning poker under tons of finacail pressure is far harder than most people think. as I've said before, as long as everyone is healthy and getting the things they truelly need, the rest is less important than it seems now. as far as bankruptcy, I and many others have been down that road as well. [censored] happens. often there are tons of factors that are only minablely under out control. I wouldn't sweat it. Steve [/ QUOTE ] Steve, Thanks for all your input over the last few months. You are awesome! On a side note, however, I am now convinced that you are the worst non-drunk speller in STTF history. Les |

Re: OT - Today, I am no longer a pro
Les-
In life hard work and dedication pay off . . . we just have no idea of when. You're long on both those qualities and it sounds like you have a plan for the future. Being a professional poker player sucks, and the fact that you still enjoy the game after all this will allow you to enjoy it that much more when you don't need JJ to hold up against AT, which it never does when you really need it to, but always does when you're just playing for fun. Good luck. -Brian |

Re: OT - Today, I am no longer a pro
[ QUOTE ]
I have a very cool 13 year old son and a beautiful 7 yr old daughter who very much were looking forward to Santa arriving, with his usual overstuffed bag of goodies. I felt alone, helpless, inept, and pretty much worthless during much of this time. [/ QUOTE ] This is the most important part of LesJ's post, IMO. This feeling is much worse than anything anyone can imagine in their life. Les, It is clear you have your priorities in order (family first!) Recently Bluefeet left 2p2 and poker to get his life in order. But he too had his priorities right, his 2 girls. It is certainly sad to read about other's misfurtune. BUT it is really nice to read in their "sad" stories, how much they love their children and that they have not lost sight of what is most important. There are a few new dads (Stregachess, Kevstreet, Irieguy... and a few others) who are now realizing the joy your kids bring you, and nothing beats that feeling, nothing. So no matter how difficult life gets, you'll get through it all when you realize what is really important in life, your family. |

Re: OT - Today, I am no longer a pro
Les,
Congrats on making it through. Glad I was able to help when I could. Also, while I'm sure Irie has been present for a few births recently, I'm almost certain he wasn't around for the conceptions (unless the lucky couple hooked up in VIP). |

Re: OT - Today, I am no longer a pro
Les,
Nice post. I agree with noodleman about it being required reading for aspiring pros. I was laid off temporarily last summer and played poker part time as my only source of income while I was looking for work. I have a family too. Poker did not go well because of the pressure I felt. I can relate somewhat to your situation, but yours seems much more difficult than mine was. I hope the bankruptcy & new job turn things around for you. Good luck! It seems I say this in every busto thread, but I'm so glad that if I went busto I would just be another broke college student as opposed to someone with serious problems to deal with. |
