Default 10/20 Live, JJ Overpair + OESD

Bellagio 10/20, 9-handed.

Villian just sat down and posted UTG+2, this is his second hand.

Hero has 2480, villian covers.

Hero is BB with J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Preflop
Villian (UTG+1) raises to 180, folds to Hero who calls.

Flop (360): 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
Hero bets 240, Villian raises to 600, Hero pushes for 1700.

Like it? Prefer check/call or check/raise?

i prefer a c/r all in... i think if he raises here it's often with a hand that you have 10 outs at best against. people will like bet/fold AA and KK on this board tho.

oh once he raises there i think i'm calling and c/f unimproved on turn.

is this a semi-bluff or for value vs like KTo or whatever? I don't think anyone that opens for 9bb and raises the flop is gonna be folding an overpair for 120bb

If I'm reading right and you raised to 1700 all-in, you only had 1880 to start. Did you push for more or did you really have only 1880 to start?

In any event, I probably check/call the flop vs an unknown. See what he bets. This is often times very telling (smaller bets weak; big bets strong. Sometimes vice-versa given opponent characteristics). That board has to be scary for an overpair, and if he has a set or long straight he's got you screwed. Once you call a flop bet, he might check the turn for pot control giving you a free card or bet really small, which is good for you. You have the option to semi-bluff all-in if he bets small on turn. If he checks the flop, you almost certainly have the best hand and the green light to bet any turn that isn't an A or K.

As played, I would call the raise and check/fold turn unimproved.

I had 2480, my push is for an additional 1700, so the raise is to 2380 total.

My bad, sorry for the confusion.

Anyways, I guess the consensus is that I played this too fast. Thanks for the replies everyone.

Results are that he tanked for a while (a solid 3 minutes) and then finally decided to call with... J7 for the straight. Go figure. Board bricked out.

I was sitting to your right on this hand. I like the way you played it. You lead at this pot so villian raises and you can shove giving him folding equity and you the big semi bluff if he does call. Too bad this guy was playing J7 and hit the joint only to tank it for 5 minutes. When he turned over his hand I wanted to slap him for the slowroll...

If it's any consolation I took him for a ride two or three times later in the game making 2k or so off of him.
