Default Nothing Works-I\'ve been at it for hours-Please Please Help

Ok, so I bought my parents a refurbed computer since theirs died. It's got Windows XP, but the bare minimum hardware to run it. All they use it for is e-mail, Amazon, Word.

Unfortunately, my little brother got at it, got god knows what viruses/spyware on it.

Here's where the big problem is.

Anytime I try to run a program (Spybot/Anti-virus/AdAware/etc.) it says something like "insufficient system resources."

When I Ctrl+alt+delete, Task Manager is blanked out. Even trying to run "Msconfig" on the command prompt, going into System settings or add/drop programs brings up the systems resources error message.

I don't have any system restore disks or anything.

I'd really appreciate any help, because e-mail is pretty much my only way of contacting them and their only computer access, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Noah

Boot into safe mode and try running the clean up from there or just wipe it and reinstall and be done with it.

All of the above occur in safe mode as well.

There's nothing needs saving on the comp, any way to wipe it clean without any CDs? (bought refurbed on TigerDirect)

No, but if it has a product key sticker all you need are any OEM XP Cd's. They should be easy to find and this is legal.

Try Going into Safe Mode - then Go to System Restore ( thats under Acessories -System Tools - System Restore )- that will Roll Your Comp Back -To Before the Virus or what ever got your System -

first off, you have the minimum requirements for xp and running the MINIMUM and not recommended really doesn't leave too much room for leeway, if you listed the specs of the computer that would help but most likely not enough ram if resources are low.

Also system restore wont get rid of a virus it just restores your system settings to an earlier time. Your best bet is to burn a copy of one of your friends XP disks and reformat your drive and clean install.. for future ease of repairing this i would highly recommend looking into how to image a drive.

Thanks for the replies. When I get home, I'll see if I can dig up my XP disk and find the product key. I'll try the system restore too. Computer worked perfectly since it was literally empty besides firefox. then one day i came home and it had viruses/pop -ups to go along with the ten million programs my little brother downloaded.

I'll cross my fingers.

List the specs of the PC before you do anything. It might not even be worth it.

If the XP license sticker isn't on the pc, there is software you can use to retrieve it, although this won't do you any good if the computer isn't functioning.
