PLO8 final table - low cards - what do you do?
600/1200 blinds - 8 players remain- PLO8 $55
Seat 1: (8218 in chips) Seat 2: HERO (7972 in chips) Seat 3: (43893 in chips) Seat 4: (12548 in chips) Seat 5: (20306 in chips) Seat 6: (12384 in chips) Seat 7: (8771 in chips) Seat 8: (14908 in chips) HERO: posts small blind 600 seat 3: posts big blind 1200 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to HERO [4c 2d 4s 3s] UTG raises 3000 to 4200 Folds around to me. I never know what to do with all low cards at the higher blinds. All I can say, is that I have finally achieved the ability to play for the win, not just to not-lose. I am not afraid to push. But is this a pushing hand? I see people push it all the time, but there's at least one ace in his hand, and I need one on the board to scoop I would think. Is it -EV here to play this hand? Am I always playing for half? |

fold and wait for a better opportunity; you are probably no better than 42%/58% against any raising hand.

Fold, a drawing hand like that has not much value HU especially when calling will commit you. A push is even worse as you have 0,01% FE (misclicks included...:-)
In a similar situation you'd rather play (push) a hand like AAxx, KKxx or even QQxx which are much better off HU. |

Re: PLO8 final table - low cards - what do you do?
OK good. That's what I did, folded. I just see these hands played so fast, not just by donks, but by players with winning tournament records. I just wasn't ready to start taking chances like that. Ended up 5th anyway so I was happy.
So these hands are good for calls when there's low chance of pot raises preflop, and that's about it. Is this the consensus? |

Re: PLO8 final table - low cards - what do you do?
Well, it depends on your position, stack sizes and players who have called in front of you.
Let's say you're on the button and UTG raises pot with 2-3 callers, then I would call 10/10 assuming the opponents have fairly stack sizes. As already said it's a great drawing hand but only in a multiway pot where you are given the right pot odds. |

Re: PLO8 final table - low cards - what do you do?
I see three reasons for folding.
1.) Since you're facing a raise of over half your stack, you have 0 fold equity. 2.) You are the small blind and get to see the next 7 hands for free. 3.) Finally, your hand is better suited for a large multiway pot. If you were to put it all on the line with this one, 90% of the time you're going to need to improve to have a real shot of taking it down. This hand is great for sneaking into a large pot and flopping or turning a monster. G O N E F O R E V E R We be [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]in'! |
