Re: 1/2 NL Live ACTION!
And this is why live NL is +EV. I just hope you didn't berate him. I got all in w/JJ vs. AJo and K9o last friday knowing I was way ahead. All you can say when they suckout is "nice hand." But you have to say it like you mean it. And they'll do it again. Let them gamble all day long as long as they're taking the worst of it.

Re: 1/2 NL Live ACTION!
I played a lot of hands live before I ever played online. It's where I learned.
If this is a typical live game with the typical live gambler, you obviously did the right thing. The advice about saying "nice hand" is so right on. Don't react, unless to act chastened for your "bad" play. I use the term gambler on purpose, by the way. Unlike the people around here, who - like me, and I'm no expert at all - study to understand the game, the dudes at the tables are often drunk or stupid or drunk and stupid or action addicts, etc. Fold equity is almost inapplicable unless you've ascertained that the player you're charging is good enough to even know it. The other important thing is that PF play is worlds apart from online play. You can't be too surprised by any ridiculous hand you see. You just can't. There isn't a process of "expectation" taking place in the mind of a poker player who intends to fit 45 minutes in at the tables he's nowhere near rolled for. |

I didnt say a thing after he took that pot, I just thought i played it really good. [/ QUOTE ] In that case, nice hand. You got the money in good. There's nothing you can do after that. [ QUOTE ] But I shoulda stood up and leave, instead I tilted with the money i had left of that pot! [/ QUOTE ] This is perhaps the most important aspect of taking a bad beat. Know yourself. If you tilt after a bad beat, then either get up and go for a walk, or flat out leave. I don't tilt after bad beats. I tilt after I do something stupid where I feel like I should know better. Like paying off a set with an overpair when I know I'm beat, or folding the best hand in a huge pot. Those are the times when I should get up and leave. I'm getting better at it. It's hard to do, though, especially when you're trying to log lots of hours. |
