I get it. They're overplaying their hands and calling off huge bets when their stack size makes it completely unnecessary to play that way.

[/ QUOTE ]

clearly, either the tens should limp/call preflop from the small blind, or just call a reraise - in a blind vs. blind battle - with the fifth best hand in poker, so that they can be OOP for the rest of the hand with 2 million in the pot and 4 mil in his stack. actually, wait, the best play is to fold (with a 57/43 edge that's certainly not enough to PUT HIS TOURNAMENT LIFE ON THE LINE.)

or maybe AK should just call the original raise (you know, holding AK) or fold to the shove (you know, holding AK).

or maybe, just maybe, they both played well and one got unlucky.

[/ QUOTE ]

So where do you draw the line?

What if they each had 70 BB? 150 BB? 300 BB? First day? 2nd day?

Would this be standard in all of the above scenarios?

At what point don't you take a chance like this even if it blind vs blind?

Lee making a seemingly donkish play there. Though not as donkish as the min re-raise.

now *this* is overbetty enough to be transparent, hence not that great (make it 2.5 mil, shove any flop, and it's scarier)

Another standard AK vs. pocket pair all-in pre-flop.

100 BB is deep enough that 4 betting tens starts getting ugly...70 is probably a shove

Lee Watkinson Takes Over the Chiplead
Lee Watkinson bet 400,000 and Will Spadea raised to 800,000. Watkinson moved all in for 6.5 million and Spadea quickly called.

Watkinson:
Spadea:

The flop was . The turn was the . Watkinson was on the brink of elimination and down to six outs. The river was the and Watksinson hit one of his outs. He doubled through Spadea and took over the lead. Watkinson increased his stack to over 14 million.

[/ QUOTE ]

EDIT: My bad here. Lee hit a king on the river for AK to beat his opponent's 99.

Lee making a seemingly donkish play there. Though not as donkish as the min re-raise.

[/ QUOTE ]

How about the dude calling off over 5 million with 99, i don't mind Watkinson's play at all, he is playing AK strong, which is to be expected at this point in the tourney.

Does this really need to become another Strat forum?

In any case, Watkinson is now listed at 14M, but Spadea still at 11M...that can't be right, can it?
