Re: Is Terrell Davis a HOFer?
[ QUOTE ]
but the fact that so many no-name Denver RBs have had such great success in TD's wake ruins his candidacy in my eyes. [/ QUOTE ] Well put. As a Denver homer and TD fan, I can't help but think he's just a small step above the likes of Chris Warren, Barry Foster, Bam Morris, Eddie George, and Jamal Lewis. That being said, his post-season performance is absolutely sick. There isn't a RB who comes close, and probably never will be. A lot of it was the O-line, but Rob and Ed were also very good blockers at their position. And let's not forget that the TD didn't play in any of the teams where HOF inductions are loosely given out. Elway is the only Bronco in atm. |

Re: Is Terrell Davis a HOFer?
When I saw this I thought you were talking about Terrell Owens at first. Obviously he probably won't be getting in, even if deserving, as people have to vote for him. And he was the best receiver in football for a 5-6 year period, so it wouldn't be undeserved.
In any case if there was ever an ESPN hall of fame he would be one of the charter members. TD, I dunno, I remember he was dominant, but that may have been the best offensive line in history. When I think of TD, I remember most of his runs involving a wide open hole, then him knocking down some guy 5-6 yards past the line of scrimmage and going for 15-25. That and the longevity thing. Nah. Maybe he should have roided up to come back from injuries better. |

Re: Is Terrell Davis a HOFer?
Tom Nalen, Mark Schlereth
Edit: Schlereth I only know because of his ESPN gig. |

It's a fair point you're making, but in spite of the fact that there were very few notable individuals on the line, you can't deny that they were a superb ensemble run-blocking unit. Also note that Denver's O-line traditionally never speaks to the media, which serves to keep their profile low. |

Re: Is Terrell Davis a HOFer?
It's irrelevant, most people know only a handful of lineman throughout the league. The zone blocking scheme is what they did and why they were so effective.

Re: Is Terrell Davis a HOFer?
Somewhat of a digression, but with the "cheap" chop blocking the broncos employed, (and led to so many successful RB production!) how come NO OTHER TEAM copied this??? all pro sports have the remarkable trait of copy cat-ing winning strategies, so this perplexes me.

Re: Is Terrell Davis a HOFer?
Atlanta did it, too. The problem is that you have to have the right type of QB to do it.
