I had the fortune to have John Allen Paulos as an instructor in my undergrad years at Temple University.
Innumeracy: Mathematical Illiteracy and Its Consequences is a valuable read, and Paulos's skill at getting you to imagine a visual about what the numbers mean is a great lesson to learn. From one of the books I remember how to remember about how much blood there is in the whole world and how to quickly deduce what it would be it if you gave me the expected number of people on earth at anytime... Plus, he's funny.

What sparked your Omaha interest? Never found too much on Omaha in print, would love to read people's opinions on it.

If you are still going crazy on poker books and economics, you might just love The Poker Face of Wall Street, especially for his description of the true rise of finance in America and poker's role in it. Incidentally, I found that a good public library system is worth using, and can save you space on the home bookshelves.

Nickel and Dimed is a fantastic book. Then again, I lean to the left, just like the author. The book has a great deal of literary value, though. It could easily be taught in a literary journalism class, alongside Tom Wolfe and Hunter S. Thompson. No matter what your political outlook is, you'll probably be glad you read it.

Slightly off-topic - I used to own freakonomics.com, which I sold to them. Would have charged more if I knew they were writing a book that would become a best-seller.

On-topic - PNL is very good from your poker list. As for the rest, I don't know what's in your library already. If you own nothing else, those wouldn't be my 1st choices.

Wealth of Nations is actually a good read for it's age. A lot of econ majors never actually read it cover to cover, but I did. The scope of his thinking to put it together at that time is impressive. There are a few problems of course, but most is brilliant.

The three omaha books you listed are the standard 3. That said, Once you get the very basics of omaha down (connected cards, the high value of position, recognizing nut outs vs non-nut outs) General Poker Theory books will probably help more with an omaha game than any specific workbook text can.

If becker's book includes his essay on marriage read that essay. Hope you enjoy what Adam Smith says about capitalists.
