Default playing a tournament in a casino

hi,
i have played online for over 2 years now and plan my first visit to a casino to play tournament soon ,so need some advice please, online its very easy to work out pot odds as the total pot is allways shown , but if your playing live in a casino how do players work it out whats in the pot so quick without asking the dealer, if a player sees you looking at the pot counting all the chips he must figure your on some sort of draw

Just remember what went in the pot instead of having to count it after the fact.

Yeah the dealer will tell you how much your opponent bets, so you just add it up, and figure the pot odds

As has been said, just keep track as the betting rounds are proceeding. You will likely be at best one of three at the table who has much of an idea how much is in there....

Pot size after the flop, before betting starts: (# players to flop) x (preflop raise size). You only really need to approximate. Add the blinds in if they both fold. You should know how much they contributed if you are already calculating M as you go. The turn and river betting shouldn't be hard to do in the same manner.

Example:

100/200 level, UTG raises to 700, MP calls, BTN calls, blinds fold. Pot 2400 (3x700+300).

Math is hard.

Please don't ask the dealer to count the pot. In most places, s/he is not allowed to. For that matter, do not ask to see someone's mucked hand after showdown, as it's extremely tacky and slows down the game.

Live play is different from online play. In the long run, you'll be healthier for it.

Just refer to the numerals floating above the pot! :-)

Just to reiterate, DO NOT visibly count the pot (unless of course you are holding the two card nut flush and want to pretend to have the naked Ace...the donks will make you "pay to draw" against them!)

if u've played online enough u should remember betting from previous rounds, if there was no reraise then just add them together from how many players. I've been in a spot where pot odds where huge and I asked for a count from the dealer and he couldn't tell me, i asked the guy next to me, he guessed 1400 i guessed 1200 and it was 1300. so yeah, and after a couple sessions live you should be able to guess pretty closely just based on all chips, this was cash game though so. More time at the table the better u will be, but u should be paying attention to all bets and who is making them and calling them on each street to have an idea on where ur hand stands and where they are in the hand.

thanks for advice all, i will add as players bet, i remember andy black giving the dealer a hard time in a tournament for moving the pot to far away, he was saying other players can see peoples eyes focus on the pot, so i suppose some players loose track every now and then, worth loooking for i imagine,

You can't ask the dealer to count the pot but you can ask him/her to spread it so it's easier to count it yourself if by some chance you cant remember the action. Most players at the low stakes buy in tourneys don't have a clue about the math so if they see you count the pot it won't mean much to them, you're rarely, if ever, giving away information by doing it.
