Default First birdie, does this count?

I started playing golf this year, i am 18. Today was my 5th round, it was on a small executive course (par 3), i got on for free... Anyway I made my first birdie on the courses longest hole, a 178 yard par three. tee'd off the with the old 3 iron and got it to stop within five feet of the stick and i sunk the putt. Does this count as my first birdie or do I need to wait to get it on a real course before I can call it my first "real" birdie.

So did it ricochet off a tree or what? How did it get to 5 feet?

OP,

If it is a 178 yard hole, it counts. Doesn't matter how long the other holes are. I have a hole-in-one on a 215 yard hole at a nearby executive course, that counts every bit as much as the ones I've had on "full size" courses. Nice job.

Yes - if you took the pin out before you putted.

Yes - if you had 14 or fewer clubs in your bag.

Good job. Now go tackle that first eagle.

tuq,

This thread is about some dude's first birdie, not your multiple aces (you had me at one on an executive course, btw).

First of all, to the OP, I'm not sure people are being explicit enough here about why your birdie counts. I'd hazard a guess but I would say that the average distance of most par 3's from white tees on full courses will be well under 172. You will find some longer for sure, but there are a lot that are much shorter. You'll find a whole bunch under 150.

And to pull a tug....I have a birdie bad beat story. In all of 2006, I didn't have a single birdie in maybe 20 rounds. I shot in the 80's probably 5-6 times and had plenty of really good chances but I blew all my makeable birdie putts and didn't ever get lucky on any long ones.

Then this year in an alternating shot event, I hit a ball within 6 inches of a 150yd par three but I don't get to tap it in. Therefore, still no birdie.

Very nice birdie, OP. I remember my first birdie, it was on a 110 yard par 3 with a tiny, tiny green. I'll never forget it, knocked it within 3 ft. The first birdie is an important milestone, still waiting for my first eagle, though...
