If you are stranded in the desert and only have Soda to drink
I got in an argument with my gf on this subject. She claims that If you are stranded in the desert and only have Soda to drink; drinking that soda will actually make you die faster. How can this be. I have been googling the [censored] out of this and cant really find anything that says either way. Any nutritionists or anything out there can confirm, deny?

I know people that, as near as I can tell, haven't ever drank anything but soda. I think your old lady is both wrong and dumb.

From what I've heard, it dehydrates you. [/ QUOTE ] No I don't think it will. If you put more sodium or water in your body you can just pee it out. If it was cola and had caffiene that could affect you, as caffiene is a diuretic. However, if your body is dehyrdated even the cola will still do more good than bad. edited cause my first answer sucked.

ok ... so at what percent concentration of salt water would it be ok to drink? that level is < the amount of sodium/sugar/etc (i.e. stuff that dehydrates you) in soda.

It's because of the caffeine. Caffeine dehydrates you. The same thing would happen with coffee.
